Flood Warning
Issued by the National Weather Service at 8:43 am CST on March 10, 2010


The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the Tombigbee river near LeRoy
* from Friday morning until further notice
* at 7am Wednesday the stage was... 10.2 feet
* minor flooding is forecast
* flood stage is 24.0 feet
* forecast to rise above flood stage by late Friday morning and continue to rise
to near 25.2 feet by early Sunday morning.
* At 24.0 feet... flooding of low lying farm and pasturelands in the area will
occur. Cattle in low lying areas may need to be moved to higher ground.

The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the Tombigbee river near Coffeeville dam
* from this morning until further notice
* at 8am Wednesday the stage was... 12.5 feet
* minor flooding is forecast
* flood stage is 29.0 feet
* forecast to rise above flood stage by Friday early afternoon and continue to
rise to near 30.2 feet by Saturday evening.
* At 29.0 feet... pastureland in the area will become flooded and livestock need
to be moved to higher ground.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Alabama... northwest Florida and southeast
Mississippi... including the following areas... in Alabama...
Butler... Choctaw... Clarke... Conecuh... Covington... Crenshaw...
Escambia... lower Baldwin... lower Mobile... Monroe... upper
Baldwin... upper Mobile... Washington and Wilcox. In northwest
Florida... coastal Escambia... coastal Okaloosa... coastal Santa
Rosa... inland Escambia... inland Okaloosa and inland Santa
Rosa. In southeast Mississippi... George... Greene... Perry...
stone and Wayne.

* From this evening through Thursday morning

* rainfall totals of 2 to 5 inches are possible across the area
through Thursday morning with the bulk of the rain expected
tonight. Locally higher rainfall totals are possible in areas that
see repeated occurrences of stronger showers and thunderstorms.

* Soil conditions continue to be very saturated across the northern
Gulf Coast and the ground is not capable of adequately absorbing
periods of very heavy rain. As a result... the potential for flash
flooding... especially in poor drainage and low lying areas... will
increase tonight.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
This Flash Flood Watch is being issued based upon excessively
moist ground conditions and anticipated heavy rainfall.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
